| 9 Helena women at Subball!?So originally when Lauren said "Let's go to Subball!"?I said no.?I have been to three Subballs in 4 years, my first with Ernie Ray and the other two with Chris.?I never had much fun and it was the same every year.?Neither guy liked dancing and both were really quiet so it wasn't exciting.?The point to me seemed to drink yourself into oblivion with the free wine and drink tickets (in Hawaii you got 4 drink tickets per person, 2 alcoholic and 2 non-aloholic) and eat the same food as the year before.?Then there was the crazy cake ceremony with the wizard and setting the raspberry topping on fire...but it was the same every year.?This year I can't do much of either the drinking or the eating so I was thinking bleh.?We went to Ross one day though and I found a dress I really liked so we decided if it fit I would go to Subball, it fit but I still was not looking forward to it.?The day started out with a 5K to support those with Parkinson's disease at the Promenade of Liberty Station, which is right outside NTC (the housing area I just moved into).?So we met up at 7:40am after I slept for 3 1/2 hours and we walked over.?I was all energetic due to my lack of sleep (don't question it, that's just how I work) and Lauren was wishing I could just drag her behind me.?We finished the 5K with a much better time than our last one (I think?)and walked back to my house.?She went home so we could each shower and get ready for our hair appointments.???We drive to our 2pm hair appointments and get there early to look at updo books and the lady tells us she cancelled our apointments because she is not good at updos and the other girl who was supposed to do one was in Vegas.?So we had to go on a search for a place that could do them.?By 2 we had found a place that said they could get us both in at 3.?So we went to my house so I could do Laurens makeup.(I had done mine before the original appointment in case we ran into a time crunch.)?Got that all done and went to the hair place...30 minutes later the lady was done cutting someone elses hair (those people gave the longest mens haircuts I have ever seen in my life!)and got to us.?Turns out she thought she could do both of us even though Lauren had told her we both needed to be done by 4.?So she started with me and made me look stupid, then did Laurens.?By 4:50 she was done so I had Lauren drive home so I could re-pin a bunch of curls and not look like a jackass.?We got back to my house and changed, did last minute things then hopped in the Cobra and took off to the Sheraton.We got to the hotel and couldn't find anyone from the boat for about 15 minutes.?We found them all and blahblahblah.... sat down at the table hehe.?Ellen had made an awesome centerpiece with a subMOOrine and our own little sailor on top.?We had balloons and "gold pieces" all over the table... because Helena, Montana is apparently the city paved in gold.?We even had a cow print table cloth and bandanas on every chair and most of the girls had cowboy hats.?Then we only received an honorable mention boooo to the judges.?Booo to the Topeka and their non-centerpiece centerpiece.?Next year we should just have a cowboy on a real horse standing in the corner then maybe we would win.?Our table even got caught with the wine bottles that had mysteriously appeared under our table.? |
| Our table even got caught with the wine bottles that had mysteriously appeared under our table.?I mean if you find a wine bottle under the table you are going to drink it right??Haha... anyways.???It was very different yet the same as in Hawaii.?There was the tolling of the bells, a ceremony that commemerates every sub that has been lost or had sailors lost.?It was very somber but pretty informative too.?Then there were the boring way to talkative guest speakers while we all waited for dinner and our tummies grumbled.?Dinner was different too... granted I couldn't eat much but the chicken was pretty good and I didn't throw up.?I even had a little bit of strawberry shortcake for dessert... somehow overall I lost two pounds since yesterday morning too.?I had my first experience trying alcohol since surgery too... about 4 sips of red wine and it went right to my head which before would have taken about 8 shots.?I decided I didn't want to try more and left it at that.?I think even though there were only 9 of us we had the loudest most energetic table there.?We were "honored" because the boat is deployed so we were thanked for coming and all the single guys were warned they couldn't handle us (which was probably true).?After dinner we all danced and were silly.?There was lots of picture taking and merryment.?Some random guy grabbed me and danced with me.?He had gorgeous eyes and was really tall but seemed a little strange.?While we were dancing I looked down and noticed his pants were unbuttoned.Now if you know dress blues they are laced in the back and the front has 13 buttons and they button all up and it takes forever.?So his whole button plackard was down and his undershirt was sticking out.?So I asked why his pants were unbuttoned and he said, "Hey when you have been drinking and need to pee there is a lot of buttons o undo so I just didn't do them."?Then he moved on to Zafera, then Kristen.?He was a nice guy.?Then a little later the master chief?of the LA asked me to dance with one of his officers which was funny.?The guy was so embarrased.?It was cool to see some LA guys again since I knew a lot when I worked for Liberty in Hawaii.?Everyone took pictures then I escaped as soon as the song was over.?I even did the electric slide for the first time in my life and I have always been anti-electric slide.?It was fun and I felt like a dork but I was dork with everyone else.?We tried to get a group picture of the 8 of us left (Ginger was lost during dinner) but the photographer was an asshole and said he would only do 4 of us at a time.?So just Lauren and I had a picture taken together.?There was lots of other stuff but I think I wrote about the majority of it and this is really long enough.?All in all I had 100x's more fun that I ever thought I would and I am really glad I went.?It almost makes me want to go to halfway night... almost ahahaha.?Time to go the gym. |
