| They were loved once upon a time.Just because somebody or something was all the rage for even an extended time, does not guarantee icon status in the years that follow.Sometimes, people and shows do maintain a place in pop culture years after they leave the airways.People of all ages will respond to the references of "Kitt" "Boss Hogg" "B.A. Baracus", "Zack Morris" and "Who shot J.R.?"The shows and people we review today were not just "flashes in the pan" that had a strong debut only to fizzle quickly.Most of these people and shows graced toys, book bags, apparel and were once mainstays in popular culture.In the years that followed, they faded into obscurity and could never again muster the following they once knew.They were loved once upon a time, but that time has passed.MC Hammer
He was once "Too Legit To Quit" and reminded us "We Got To Pray Just To Make it Today".He brought some funky baggy pants into style.He had artists who apparently sought to piggy back on his fame - "Young MC" and "Father MC".I am not joking, one night on BET many years ago, I saw a performer named Father MC.Well, Hammer Time and all the rip offs, crazy clothing and upbeat rap music that went with is long over.That is kind of sad, because rap music today promotes killing, disrespect of women, drugs and all kinds of other vices.It is too bad the craziness of MC Hammer did not spawn more rap like his.I hate the rap music of today. |
