We hold these truths...
Wall Street Journal:"His actual policy positions are little more than Democratic Partyboilerplate and hardly a tick different from Hillary's positions.Heespouses no galvanizing political idea.He is unable to say what he means by "change" or "hope" or "the future."And he has failed to say how he would actually be a "unifier."By the evidence of his slight political record (130 "present" votes in the Illinois state legislature, little achievement in the U.S. Senate) Barack Obama stacks up as something of a mediocrity.None of this matters much."--------------------------------------------------------------Well, even the Wall Street Journal is not always wrong, which prompts me to share my following thoughts:We (meaning myself and other open-minded people?with clarity of mind and research ability) hold these truths to be self-evident:1.?Smoke and mirrors impress voters more than substance.Discussion:??Quite probably, the well-delivered, but?empty rhetoric and unquestionable lack of deeds?or experience has propelled Obama into a lead he should neve have held.?Eloquently spoken words trump substance.2.?Many new voters and youth are playing the role of rubes.Discussion:?The "hope" of our nation, our youths, presenting in droves to cast their first political votes, have perfectly represented themselves at primaries and caucuses as one would expect from a generation of indulged children, suckled on music videos, MTV, Play Station, and their inalienable right to be superficial in all things.??See 1 for details.?All excitement and rush, very little depth of thought.?I'm disappointed that many, but not all by any means, of our youthful voters are failing to use their analytical abilities, so important in academia, to make wiser choices instead of the peer pressure popularity, go with the crowd, sheep response.?Idealism has its place, but so, also, does the ability to make choices wisely.3.?Power of the media, powerlessness of the people.Discussion:??The power of the media to influence has reached dangerous levels of incompetency and disregard for the public it pretends to serve.?All major media are owned and operated by Republicans, thus, giving them the power over?unfairly influence and persuade in ways both covert (CNN)?and blatant (see Fox).?Journalism has never been a greater hue of yellow than now.?The manipulation of public opinion by the use of a word in quotes here and the reproduction of a bad picture there has far-reaching implications in subtle manipulation of the public.?Media reporting should be impartial, only.?Anything else belongs as OpEd.4.?Proven incapability.Discussion:?The answer is no.?The question is this:???Has the American voter demonstrated?the capability of selecting the best and most appropriate candidate for the highest and most powerful position in our government??Despite every indication of being a near-moron, incapable of correctly pronouncing words or creating a grammatical sentence, let alone an intellectual argument, the voters put someone of the ilk of George W. Bush into said office of the presidency, with the aid of the Supreme Court and the best dirty trick team assembled since Nixon,?then turned around and repeated that same mistake 4 years later.??Gullible??Absolutely.?We (the people) seem to fill the oval office with someone chosen with the same ease and?forethought we give to choosing a toothbrush.?Okay, maybe not that much, but nearly.?Mistakes cost us dearly (see history of last 7 years).?For further proof, see Reagan, Nixon, possibly Carter, and Hoover. The choices are what they are.Discussion:??Our choices are clearly Hillary, Obama, or McCain.?We must give serious thought, and diligently seek to discover the true history and character of each candidate, allowing for human errors made in their journeys, dissecting their words for true meaning, seeking earnestly to view their hearts, understand their minds and motives, not be overly persuaded by powerful words expressing philosophical idealism and not realism, and urgently seek the very best candidate we are offered.??Obama is probably a decent man.?Hillary is not a self-serving bitch.?McCain has his good points.?These truths should be self-evident to the open minded person.??Try some more.?Obama lacks a substantive record of action as a policitican.?Hillary and McCain have long histories of achievement.?Obama represents the "hope" of changing an established political system, only.?Highly unlikely, however.?Hillary represents politics "as usual?"?There is nothing usual about Hillary.?She has devoted her life to public service, not self-service.??Check the record before you call her a bitch again.?McCain has demonstrated the ability to work with Democrats to some degree, but his solutions for America's problems too closely reflect more years of Bush solutions.??Do not be misled by the many Political Action Committees with one-sided agendas, blogs written by hate-mongers, biased media sources, the many mysogynists among us who insist that a man can do any job better (try giving birth, bubba), or distortions presented to you as fact.?The job of the presidency is very important.??Open your minds and do your homework, voters of America.?The candidates are not yet?responsible for the course our future will take---YOU are!
