The tale of two speeches UPDATE 1
On Tuesday Obama gave perhaps the most important speech of his presidential campaign, and what will be looked back on as a state of the union style speech on race in America.? On Wednesday Bush gave a speech on the victories of the war in Iraq marking the 5th year of the invasion and occupation. His speech will be seen as what I am calling, There Will Be MORE Blood.? As I watched and listened to Obama speak I saw what we can be, as a country.I saw a man who not only symbolizes the convergence of black and white, he is black and white. He speaks from a place that few of us can relate to.A white parent, a black parent, a mixing and a melding, who better to make this speech?? As I watched Bush give his speech I saw a man in denial. He talked of brave acts done in war to an audience in the Pentagon. He spoke of blood and more blood.Bush speaks from a place few of us can relate to, a wealthy man, born to great wealth and famous political lineage.A man who chose to escape the horrors of Vietnam when his country needed him, who better to make this speech?? Indeed, we can debate Reverend Wright?s words over and over and over missing the anger of a life immersed in the inner city, or we can look at our nation, try to address our challenges, the world we live in, the environment we will leave for our children, the debt we will burden them with, the legacy of war and empire building.Or we can continue to beat the drums of war, parrot misinformation; manufacture consent for our sheep like population.? We can look at the two messages as if we are looking at a fork in the road.Do I take the road to the left, the one that speaks of hope and promise, should we become the best we can be, lead by example in a world that seeks America?s leadership, or should we take the road to the right, answer the call to more blood, more war, bail outs for the "brilliant capitalists" while answering the call of the credit card companies and banks denying the needs of the many to serve the needs of the few.? The choice is simple for me, my blinker is on; I am making a turn to the left.Which way will you be turning?? Peace, J ? UPDATE 1 ? On your right you have: ? ?? Yes, he said that there would be serious consequences to the world?s economy if the war ENDED.WTF?? And Cheney, yea, he couldn?t give a rat?s ass about what we think.? McCain, he knows exactly what he?s saying. You didn?t see Senator Graham move to fix anything, did you?
