| I figured out, with Bob, how to fix our design problems with the groundplan for M*A*S*H.?We'll end up with the Swamp about where I wanted it, or where I saw it in my head, but not as far downstage as I actually expected.?I need to stop thinking, "Everything needs to be as close to the stage as possible."?Which is kind of hard, since one of the major negative criticisms in the adjudication of SOUTH PACIFIC was that the scene in the island hut between the major and his island love was "too far upstage for the audience to be able to emotionally bond with the characters and so care when one of them dies.?The tragedy was muted."?And the Swamp was in about the same depth as the hut, so that's why I wanted to see if we could move it downstage.?And we can, because Bob is a genius.?We have to sacrifice some dimensions in the nurses' hut, and maybe shave a little on the mess tent, and we may have to move the offices of the general and Henry back to the other side of the proscenium, but those are all things we can do to get the Swamp a little farther downstage.I hope everyone enjoyed that Friday night surprise night off.?It will be the last chance to relax as it is time to flex and get serious.?I also need to stop having so much fun at rehearsals and be disciplined and be an authority figure and yell and spit and so forth.?I feel like I am too nice and as a result people don't listen to me.?And I offer as proof the ton of noise emanating from backstage during the rehearsal (now that we are in the theatre) and from the seats behind me as I sit in the front row with Will reading the lines of folks who can't be at rehearsal when I don't cancel them.?Or one.?I only cancelled the one.?And no, I have not seen IRON MAN this weekend.?My dad's CT Scan showed a mass on his liver.?An ultrasound test result was back Wednesday, only no call from the doctor's office.?We called them on Thursday and the nurse (to me) sounded ominous when she said she'd call back.?They called back to schedule an MRI.?They also wanted my dad to come in for that test as well as to discuss the results of the ultrasound, which evidently can be read three ways: inconclusive; possibly a large cist; or "we don't know, let's do more tests."So I'm all ready to thrust myself into M*A*S*H for these last couple of weeks running up to opening night.?There's plenty to keep me busy, and busy makes me happy, so happiness: here I come! |
