| Our production of THE HAIRY APE had its opening weekend of performances.?It ... was ... awesome!?I am so proud of the cast and crew, team PJC rocks.?In scene one literally.?I mean, how often do you get to incorporate the BOOM BOOM BAM from Queen's "We Will Rock You" into a monologue?Scene One is amazing, only to be put into stark contrast by the poetry and sublime beauty of Scene Two, which serves to further emphasize the hell of the stockhole in Scene Three.?With Bob's set, Lance's lighting, Edee's costumes, the make-up of the actors, the sound and motion of the coal gang, the sound effects with the roar of the flame, the hiss of the boilers, and the shrill engineer's whistle, the gong beckoning the crew down to hell to work, the upper class walking head & shoulders above the lower class on puppet stilts, apprentices on roller skates, and every actor in the show in masks as animals in the zoo - and the jail break, oh my gosh, the prison sequence.What a team.?What an accomplishment.?Audiences may not get everything, but I can tell you that there were times this weekend, I looked at the audience, and they were stunned by what they were experiencing.?It ... was ... awesome!And we are going to film it to be included in the Electronic Eugene O'Neill archive located at eOneill.com, for eOneill.tv.?Our performance will be available online for Eugene O'Neill afficianados and scholars around the world to watch anytime they want.?PJC's administration is very happy that the Music & Theatre Dept. has found a way to make the works of our students available for the whole world to see via webcam.?Our thanks to the folks at the Eugene O'Neill website for making this possible.?See what I mean by awesome??That's so awesome!?Freakin' awesome, as Steve(n) would say. |
