| Well, here's the bulletin that started it all ...RONNIE JAMES DIO On VIVIAN CAMPBELL: "I Hope He F**king Dies" - Oct. 2, 2007 A video clip of legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, HEAVEN AND HELL) apparently calling ex-DIO and current DEF LEPPARD guitarist Vivian Campbell "a fucking asshole" and saying that "I hope he fucking dies" in reference to his former bandmate can be viewed below (video courtesy of celebrity-signing on eBay). The two-minute clip was shot on March 30, 2007 while Ronnie was signing autographs for fans after HEAVEN AND HELL's show at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.During the recording one fan can be heard telling Ronnie, "I saw Vivian Campbell about a year ago" before Dio cuts him off by saying, "Oh, you poor son of a bitch.I hope he fucking dies. He's a fucking asshole."The same fan can then be heard telling Dio that "he [Vivian] said he wants to play [the RAINBOW classic] 'Man on a Silver Mountain' again" before another fan states, "I bet he wants to get back together."Shaking his head, Ronnie can be heard saying, "He's got two fucking chances. He's a piece of shit. You ever heard the things he ever said about me? He called me the most despicable human being that ever lived.I went, 'I thought I gave you a chance and made you somebody. And now you're playing with who?DEF fucking who?'There's a fucking rock band for you to fucking have diarrhea with. How could that possibly be true??Is there REALLY a video?Yes, and here it is ...My initial reaction: "Ronnie James WHO?"(sarcastically)Second reaction: "Isn't he that guy they always make fun of in South Park, whose only memorable contribution to the rock legacy is that 'Gay in The Closet' anthem ... or was it ... umm ...'Rainbow in The Dark' or something like that?"(Not that there's anything wrong with it ...LOL)Third reaction: "WOW!He can REALLY be a bitch!Somebody get that bitch a Midol, ferchrissake!"Maybe that bitch leather is just too tight.I had a scary Chris Crocker moment there where I wanted to whine a lot, pretend to cry and say, "Leave Vivian Campbell alone!", but I didn't have any eyeliner on, so it just wouldn't have played right.Besides, Viv doesn't need defending. He's the real deal, and obviously even a sad old has-been is painfully aware of that. You know, I used to have some measure of respect for Dio.He kinda seemed to be the Ted McGinley of Rock - kind of the death knell for any group he joined - but at least he had a name, and he did give us all the universal hand signal for hard rock.He even has a kinda cool voice for metal ... but ONLY for metal. Not exactly a well-trained, disciplined vocal giant.I even liked him in Tenacious D's movie, "Pick of Destiny".I think, though, he took that whole throne scene way too seriously. All I can say to RJ is, "DUDE!It was a COMEDY!!You want a throne?I've got three right here in my own house!Lighten the fuck up!"NOW he is actually trying to take credit for Viv's career?!?!For "giving him a chance"?!?!Like Viv wouldn't have made it without him?Give me one small break!Viv clearly had the chops, the determination and the spark to make things happen for himself.RJ was just lucky to have been able to share a stage with him for a short period of time in his bleak second-banana career. So yeah, I guess if I were Dio, I would be venemously jealous of Viv, too.Viv is the genuine article.Viv is thriving, and putting butts in the seats. That's really what it comes down to.Viv is still original and fresh and actively touring and releasing new material. His fan base is still growing.Seat-count to seat-count and talent-to-talent, I'd put Viv up against Dio ANY day. It's a sucker bet! What's more - Dio KNOWS IT, and he just has to be a little bitch about it.So very.very sad. What little respect I had for him went right out the window with this video.ROCK ON, VIV!!!Ronnie?Balding, too-tight leather-wearing, sweating little Ronnie?Time to let it go, Hon.You've gone the way of William Shatner. It's time to either hang it up, or stop taking yourself so seriously and embrace the joke you have made of yourself.Eat THAT, you sad BITCH!...Feh!And they say Def Leppard fans are rabid. We're kittens!:)LATE ADDITION: I stand corrected.Dio did also contribute the (apparently) memorable "Butthole Diver" (or something-hole Diver") to rock lore.(... not that there's anything wrong with it!)Saturday, December 15, 2007Dio ApologizesKomodo Rock recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, HEAVEN AND HELL).Below is an excerpts from the chat: Komodo Rock: You've had press recently regarding Vivian Campbell [referring to a video tape that surfaced of Ronnie telling a fan that he hoped Vivian "fucking dies" and calling Vivian's current group DEF LEPPARD "a fucking rock band for you to fucking have diarrhea with."].Is that something that you are quite passionate about?Dio: No, I'm not passionate about it.I think that the lowly vermin that captured that on his cell phone at a moment when you are saying something that perhaps you would never say to the press, or something that you didn't really mean that much, but you know, sometimes situations dictate what you say.And once again that was something that was completely off the record.Apparently I said something bad about the band as well, about DEF LEPPARD, and once again all of things that were said were said in the heat of the moment. No reference to them at all, and I would like to apologize to those guys.I like them.It wasn't fair to them, but as far as Vivian goes, all I can say is check out the source, and then see what that source has been saying and sometimes you reply. Most of the time I have been taking the high road on all of it and I have not said anything on it.I have praised Vivian so much and I think that he deserves praise for as great as he played, but you know that was just a retort to the things that he had said about me first, and once again in an unguarded moment, I feel that I was very unfair, but I said what I said. But I am not passionate about hating him, no.I have better things to do with my life than to think about revenge or being a horrible person.Of course I don't want him to die! What I said was, once again a heat of the moment thing. Those things cannot be explained unless you speak to the source which is me, I guess, like you are doing. So no, I have no passion about that whatsoever.Source: http://www.metalunderground.com/bands/details.cfm?bandid=1488This must be where the phrase, "Methinks thou doth protest too much" comes in.BWAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!Komodo Rock recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, HEAVEN AND HELL).Below is an excerpts from the chat: |
