| I think I'm going to use the blog today to combine a few small tidbits....hope you don't mind....In an effort to save some money at home and be better equipped to handle the rising gas prices, we have had our DISH network service shut off.Which means we no longer receive the FOX network.Because even though it is an air broadcast station, our little piece of paradise, located somewhere in the armpit of Missouri, does not receive the FOX signal.The best we can do at this point is a very fuzzy NBC and ABC.I even said a short and sweet little prayer in the hopes that I could bring in FOX for just one night.Apparently Rupert Murdoch doesn't have many friends in heavenly places.Request Denied.So, I wasn't able to watch the elimination show last night to see Jason get voted off.Nor was I able to see the performances from Maroon 5 and Bo Bice.Yeah, it was kind of a quiet boring night at our house after 8pm.For the next couple of weeks, I'll be staying late at work and will watch the last 2 performance episodes from one of my video classrooms.Quite possibly the big finale as well.********************************
I'm beginning to think I work for a bunch of cheapskates.Yeah I know, times are hard, but when you work for a major university, shouldn't you be trying to provide the best educational experience possible for your students?Some of you may remember last december when I vented a little bit about wanting to upgrade our class recording system with something digital.I did the research and found that it was possible to do this for under $1000.Request was denied, because one of our department nimrods preferred to set up something a bit more global around campus.Well, he is no longer with us, no recording system is in place, and we're still recording on 7 year old recycled VHS video tapes.So this semester, a sound issue in one of our smaller rooms has created a condition in which I believe microphones should be replaced.This time the powers that be think the microphones we have are just fine, that there is no problem (even though I've provided digitallly-recorded proof from another campus that we broadcast the class to). |
| This time the powers that be think the microphones we have are just fine, that there is no problem (even though I've provided digitallly-recorded proof from another campus that we broadcast the class to).So even though the other sites can't hear half the things being said from our room, its the same old story - Request Denied.So I'll likely begin again what has been something of a twice a year occurrence - looking for a new job.Its a pipe dream really.Any other position on campus that I find will probably require I take a pay cut, so I guess I'm stuck here.I work in a place that advertises that they strive for excellence.The reality is that rather than strive to be the best, we strive to be just good enough.Is it any wonder I spend so much time on the internet during the day?*********************************
