| This made me guffaw when I logged in to my work computer this morning.You can't make this shit up...Subject: Vehicle Abuse as outlined in LFI 24-1 VCO/VCNCO's, Please take a moment to become familiar on what constitutes a vehicle abuse and pass this along to personnel in your unit.The following is from LFI 24-1 1.1.2.Vehicle Abuse: Vehicle abuse is any act or omission that has caused or may cause damage that cannot be attributed to fair wear and tear, accident, or incident.Vehicle abuse may result in early failure of components or in immediate detectable damage.Some examples of vehicle abuse are when an operator: COMPLIANCE WITH THIS PUBLICATION IS MANDATORY TABLE 1.1.Examples of Vehicle Abuses: 1.Fails to perform operator's maintenance or perform operator inspections.2.Operates a vehicle with insufficient oil, coolants or other fluids.3.Fails to report malfunctions, defects, accident damages or safety items affecting vehicle condition to vehicle maintenance non-safety items will normally be reported the next day.4.Continually rides or slips the clutch to cause premature failure.5.Operates a vehicle in the wrong gear, goes too slow in high gear or shifts into reverse when traveling forward.6.Uses the engine excessively for braking or over-speeds the engine to help in braking.7.Operates a vehicle with improperly inflated or excessively worn tires.8.Overloads, fails to tie down or improperly distributes load over the cargo area of a vehicle.9.Fails to bring vehicle or equipment in for scheduled maintenance (by specific organization).10.Uses a vehicle for other than its designed or intended use.11.Tampers with speedometers, odometers, tachometers or governors.12.Fails to protect painted surfaces from oxidation and corrosion.13.Fails to take proper precautions (i.e., parking vehicle with nose in the wind) during high winds to prevent damage to the doors (i.e., sprung hinges, dents, etc).***This list is not all inclusive.?Remember the key is damage that cannot be attributed to fair wear and tear*** Please stress to your operators that it is very important to report all damage to vehicle management immediately.?In some cases the damage will simply be put on the waiver card but this will be determined by vehicle management personnel.?Also, many operators are simply signing the AF Form 1800 without conducting an operator's check.?See item two above which states that driving a vehicle with insufficient fluids is abuse. |
