| This is like the billionth time I've tried to sit down and write a "life" update.?Every time I sit down I am at a loss for words.?Suffice it to say, life is weird right now.?I feel like I am in a big transitional phase, which leaves me feeling anxious most of the time for "what is to come" ...?I don't really know how to describe that feeling - but if you've had it before, you know what I'm taking about.?(Its kind of like, when you take a biiiig breath before jumping into a really cold pool - but getting stuck in mid-air right before you smack the surface...)I've been dealing with moving my life around now for a good month, and am still not settled.?I've relocated my studio to another house on the other side of town (East siiiiide!)This is no ordinary house.?Its a large gated property with a man-made hill.?There's a crumbling paved?driveway and a narrow flight of broken stairs that lead to the top of the hill.The house that sits on top is reminiscent of all classic creepy houses;?none of the floors are level, half of it was burned down, and there's probably been a few deaths here.?The previous owner, to my understanding, was a freakishly anti-social shut-in who spoke several languages.?The back room, which is now completely destroyed, housed piles and piles of literary material that were completely disintegrated and yellowed with time.?When I was first introduced?to this house, I was fascinated with the amount of accumulated random artifacts...?and I took pictures of nearly all of it at the time.?There was a nasty old meat grinder amidst some other old dusty trash, an old typewriter...?It reminded me (in a really crude way) of the aesthetic Mark Romanek went for in the "Closer" video.?Once the house is done being renovated, and I get my studio unpacked and organized, I want to put in a dark room and a screen printing press.?We are toying with the idea of doing art lessons, perhaps even workshops down the line.?I'm interested in hosting more open studio events, maybe even getting?models up here for some life drawing/painting...?Ideally I'd just like the house to be a creative hang out where artists can be inspired and inspire others.On the work side, I am still freelancing and working on my own artwork in my spare time.?I've hung up some more recent work at Liquid, and took down my previous stuff to either sell or paint over...?which ever comes first :P? On the personal side I am succumbing to the urge to change everything.?My life, my art, my environment... my self.?I think I have a fear of complacency.That's it outta me for now.?New art should hopefully be posted soon :) |
