I don’t watch scary movies!
When I was six years old, my grandparents took me and my little sister to a zombie movie. It wasn't really their fault they didn't go to the movies much and it was billed as a comedy.I'm sure it was funny if you were fifty-six.They had to take us both out of the theater screaming like . . .zombie victims. That's the first scary movie I ever saw, and I still remember those zombies stiff-legged and stiff-armed, coming to EAT ME UP.For weeks I had to sleep with the light on.I'm a wee bit older, now, but I'm not the least bit braver.I don't watch scary movies.I have trouble with scary books, too.I skipped Stephen King completely, although I LOVE his nonfiction book ON WRITING.Highly recommended. All this is to say that you won't see me going to midnight showings of Dracula this Halloween season.I adore Halloween, but mostly for the fun costumes like Wonder Woman and Cap'n Jack.I was the girl who wanted to be a fairy princess on Halloween, not the girl with fake blood dripping from her fangs.Oh, and I love the candy, too.I happen to have a book out this month which is perfect for the season, titled OVER HEXED.Perhaps you're heard of it.If not, Audrey and I aren't doing our job!But a few people have asked if this book, which has a matchmaking witch and wizard in it, plus a dragon with ADD, is scary.No.In order to write a scary book, I would have to sleep with the light on every single night for the rest of my life.If you understand that reading a scary book makes me cower and whimper in a corner, then you'll understand that writing one would be a trauma I would avoid at all costs.OVER HEXED is I sincerely hope a funny book, a romantic book, an entertaining book.It is not a scary book.I promise.?Wimpily yours,Vicki
