| I seem to be in a phase of going to conferences three so far this year and one more coming up the end of April.Although they play hell with the writing schedule, they're fantastic for reminding me why I'm a writer.Let me amend that they remind me why I'm a writer of popular fiction.Let me amend that they remind me why I'm a writer of romance.There, finally nailed that sucker to the floor!Romance writers, and those who read them, are the craziest, most entertaining bunch of folks I know.?They're also tender-hearted and compassionate.And intelligent, too.You couldn't throw a candy kiss at one of these conferences without hitting a lawyer, engineer, or investment counselor.Funny, sensitive and smart that's a combo you don't find every day, but I find it all the time at romance conferences.Before I took the plunge into this business, I'd worked at several types of jobs.I spent time around people I've liked well enough, but none inspired the pure pleasure I experience hanging with writers and readers of romance.I heart all of you.I wouldn't mind attending even *more* conferences, but then I wouldn't get any writing done, and I'd be kicked out of the club.?So there's my confession I do this job because I love the company I get to keep as a result.Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a deadline approaching with all the force of a flash flood in a dry desert wash. I have to make that deadline, so I can continue going to conferences.? |
