Here's what Obama said to contributors in California last weekend that is now getting some attention.?You decide if this is a put down of the working poor or not:"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them.And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."Time for my American Idol opinion - the one you won't read in blogs written by sheep who play follow-the-leader.??This is my assessment of the remaining 7 "singers."Syesha Mercado - She's much better than all the criticism about her, but has a bad habit of taking on the monster hits of the pop singers and not measuring up.Brooke White - Oh, please.?She is as exciting as milk toast.?Her??languid presentations are?boring, her voice is boring, and she brings nothing new - and has no range.?Jason Castro - He'd make somebody a nice sister.?He sings crooked, with his mouth always twisted, can barely talk, and his songs are light fare, at best.?The ukelele version of "Over the Rainbow" suits his voice, but did not deserve the idiotic praise from judges and magazine writers.David Cook - Called by Randy "the real deal."?A rocker only sings the songs he likes from the group he likes.??He's like a howler monkey.Carly Smithson - Irish, has a fantastic voice and range, yet has been in the bottom 3 twice now in 4 weeks.??The only possible reason is tweeners and idiot judges who "didn't get it," then pick on her by saying some notes were "pitchy."?In fact, I re-watched her performance that dumped her in the bottom 3 and there were 2 pitchy spots, indeed, but that does subtract much from the total performance demonstrating her great range.?My favorite, obviously.??She should make it to the finals because she sings rings around the rest, who couldn't touch her range with a fireman's ladder.David Archuletta - The 17-year-old whose songs are all the same style and range.?The only range he?has is in his parents kitchen.?But likely to win due to the adolescent voters with cell phones.Kristy Lee Cook:?The darling of "Vote for the Worst," which may help explain her continued presence in the face of lynch mobs who want her gone.??She running on fumes every week.??Specializes in country music since the judges told her she?should.??Must pick songs cautiously to remain longer, but should have been gone already.??Has been in the bottom 3 for 3 straight weeks until this past week.?Michael Johns - Better than most of the above, except Carly, Australian, interesting, and handsome enough for the girls to swoon.??Voted out last week.?Yes, tweeners.STAT OF THE DAY:
