Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
My husband and I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind this weekend.?It came out in 2004 and we watched it back then but I did not remember it very well and decided to watch it again.?After watching it a second time, I?appreciated it more than the first time that I watched it.?The movie is about a couple who split and decide to erase each other from their memories.?Most of the movie is dedicated to?Joel's character (played by Jim Carrey) erasing Clementine (Kate Winslett) from his memory.?The movie is not in sequential order, so it's kind of tricky to watch and you have to really pay attention to what's happening to understand. When he's going through the erasing procedure it begins with the most current events that took place, which were the things that led to the breakup.?So of course, it's all bad and he's happy he's getting rid of her.?But then they start getting rid of the good memories that they had together. This is where it starts to get interesting.?He wants those good memories, because when things were good, they were really good and worth holding on to.?It's when things turned to sh*t that he did not want to remember. So he tries to hide Clementine in other memories of his past, there's a scene where he's a baby being bathed in the tub.?A scene where he's humiliated - he was whacking off and his Mom caught him - hilarious! The movie itself was fascinating - the Jim Carrey character was kind of a sad sack and I honestly couldn't blame Clementine for leaving his sorry ass.But the premise of the movie was fascinating.?There are a lot of things I'd like to erase from my memory and this movie just makes you think about the things in your life that you'd like to get rid of.?Start fresh with a spotless mind.
