Earth Day Panda-monium - Please read!
WHOOP after all this panda-ring we reached the big 300 today! But are all your friends panda?d for Earth Day?The reason why you are panda?d is to celebrate Earth Day, first started in September 1969 to highlight the need to protect our Earth for ourselves and future generations. To show that you are concerned with the Earth and to mark the day, we are trying to get as many critter panda?d for the day as possible - and in the process it shows that the message is spreading, further and further so that more and more of us are conscious of looking after our unique planet. But you don?t just have to spend a day or an hour thinking about the Earth, there are many things you can do every day to help conserve nature.Make Everyday Earthday1.Remember to switch off your appliances at the mains to conserve energy, reducing fossil fuel consumption and in turn reducing emissions.~2.Recycle your cardboard, plastic, foil, aluminium and glass at recycle points.Even clothes, rags, shoes, other metals and many other material are recycled in some areas.~3.Reuse your plastic bags, we all have tonnes sitting in our cupboards but instead of throwing them out, take them with you when you go shopping instead of getting new.Or have a reusable cloth bag instead of all the plastic - it takes ages to biodegrade.~4.Instead of binning your grass cuttings or gardening waste, set up a small compost heap. Not only are you naturally recycling the nutrients into the soil, but it makes great mulch for your garden and can be a haven for wildlife. You can also put in kitchen waste such as peelings on it too.~5.Just stop littering - very simple. The amount of litter that harms wildlife is shocking, just by disposing of your waste properly is the most effective solution. If you see someone else litter, they may be ignorant to their planet, but just pick it up for them.~6.If you have a garden, think about planting a tree.If there is an uncultivated area you consider is full of weeds, unless you have plans for it, leave it.Uncultivated land is adored by wildlife.Plant insect attracting plants into your garden, such as buddleias.Collect water in a water-butt (tank), from your drain pipes and then use this water to water your garden instead of mains water.~7.Instead of using a car to get around locally, try walking, cycling or public transport. In the long run you are helping conserve fossil fuels and getting fitter at the same time.Double whammy!~8.Put up bird feeders in your garden, not only are you attracting the birds into your garden, which can be delightful, but during the winter when food resources are scarce you are providing them with a regular supply of food. And some of the birds will keep "pest" animals at bay in your garden.~9.Replace some of your normal light bulbs with low energy consumption light bulbs in your house.~10.You could sign up for an organisation that does local conservation work, volunteer to help out with a project or give a monthly donation to a local, national or international organisation helping to conserve the Earth.Conservation work can be a lot of fun even when you get your hands dirty!Since our Earth Day celebrations last year, I estimate that around 8-900 panda?d pictures are around. That is AMAZING but I am sure we can do even better! And I have been given a few opportunities to submit a video about Earth Day Panda-monium to mainstream media.I will be using various panda?d pictures in the video submission, so if you DON?T want your panda?d picture to MAYBE be on NATIONAL TELEVISION please let me know.Thank you
