Detoxed and Decaffeinated |
| The early part of last week I was hit with a nasty stomach virus or perhaps food poisoning.?I left work with an upset stomach and an accompanying ailment.?I will spare you the details of how I became severely dehydrated.?I wound up in the emergency room at 3 AM where they put 3 liters of fluid back in me.?The nurse commented, "His color is back."?I was out of work two more days.?During this time I had a bad headache, likely from the illness.?What is suprising (to me) is that I have had no caffeine since before I was sick.?I thrive on my morning cups of coffee and always enjoy a Coke with most any meal (see previous blogs titled "Coffee Blog" and "Soda Water Memories").?I guess it is kind of like the drug addict who detoxes by force when he/she is thrown in jail.?While I was sick I couldn't hold down any fluids and I certainly didn't want any alcohol.?I have been back to 100% for over a week now.?My appetite is back with a vengeance, yet I have not desired my morning coffee or a Coke to wash down those cheeseburgers and fries.?While my favorite alcohol beverage is rum and Coke, I have not desired any booze since before I was sick.?I haven't even desired a drink to unwind in the evenings.I am not saying that I have turned over a new leaf or that this will be permanent.?However, it is refreshing to know that I can function without caffeine or booze.??Maybe my next bout with sickness will help me to give up?the carbohydrates that I love so.? |
