Bad Words ( Malas Palabras) |
| My students are smart, hard working and good.But some of them are nice people with?potty mouths.I'm rather experienced as a teacher and I know how sometimes students can play with you, perhaps trying to push you buttons and seeing how you react; but I'm not as wise as to?be?sure?if they?use all those taboo words and phrases in?class just because they might not really know how to behave propperly...even when they are adults and you assume they know.And that is a problem, if students do not act according to the context surrounding them they might fail in other areas of life; if they don't know how to behave in an academic context, if they speak as if they were hanging out with friends in a bar or in the street when they are in the classroom they won't be able to adapt to?formal contexts where you are supposed to talk and behave in an appropriate way.I mean, they are preparing themselves to be teachers.I'm not an advocate for censorship but I do believe in self-regulation and respect to others.Words are just like cigarrete smoke, if you speak out, if you don't keep them to be heard only?by those you want to hear them they end up in ears that did not ask for them, just like a pasive smoker, those around you become pasive listeners of things they don't want to hear.And then, this overuse of bad words devoids them of power.What we call bad words are Powerful Words.When you use those words that are supposed to insult and outrage to talk to your friends, to address them, you are lowering the huge power they used to have.Those words should be protected.I want to be able to use them when I'm furious, I want to be able to use them when I have to refer to a hated enemy as if they were physical blows.We do a great damage to our foul language when we use it so often and so casually.?If we use?foul?language when we are?fine?what?will we?scream?the next time?we hit our finger with a hammer?Version en espaolMis alumnos son inteligentes, trabajadores y buenas personas. |
| foul?language when we are?fine?what?will we?scream?the next time?we hit our finger with a hammer?Version en espaolMis alumnos son inteligentes, trabajadores y buenas personas.Algunos de ellos son buenas personas con bocas muy sucias.No soy tan ingenua como para no pensar que usan ese vocabulario para irritarme, pero tampoco se por seguro si lo usan simplemente porque tal vez no sepan comportarse de forma correcta de acuerdo al contexto...aun cuando son todos adultos, uno supone que sabran, pero no todos parecen saber.Y ese es un problema, si los estudiantes universitarios no actuan de modo adecuado al contexto podran fallar en otras reas de sus vidas.Si no saben como actuar en un ambiente acadmico, si dicen 100 groserias por minuto como si estuvieran en el bar o en la calle con sus amigos cuando estn en una aula tal vez no sabrn adaptarse a otros contextos formales donde se espera que uno hable y se comporte de un modo adecuado.No estoy en pro de la censura pero s creo en la auto-regulacin y en el respeto a los dems.Las palabras son como el humo del cigarro, si hablas fuerte, si no?cuidas que tus palabras sean escuchadas por aquellos que?tu quieres que las escuchen, acaban, como el humo del cigarro, llegando a personas que no tienen interes en escuchar ese tipo de lenguaje, que no lo usan contigo, que no?se llevan as, por decirlo de algun modo.Y luego esta el sobreuso de las malas palabras que les roba su poder.Esas que llamamos malas palabras son palabras poderosas, emotivas.Cuando usas palabras que estan hechas para ofender o que tomaron un significado ofensivo para hablar casualmente con tus amigos, para dirigirte a ellos estas bajando el gran poder que solian tener.Deberamos proteger a esas palabras.Quiero ser capaz de usarlas con toda su fuerza cuando est muy muy furiosa, quiero que me sirvan para escupirselas en la casa a un odiado enemigo como si fueran golpes.Les hacemos un gran dao cuando usamos nuestras palabrotas (y frasesotas) tan frecuentemente y de un modo tan casual.Si las usamos cuando estamos bien qu es lo que gritaremos la proxima vez que nos peguemos en el dedo con un martillo? |
