| So I'm browsing a weird-news website, and I run across this article:A Real-life 'I Am Legend'?The short form: a virologist was on a plane, watched I Am Legend and was disturbed by what he saw.?Not the movie's heinous and near-complete departure from the source text, but the explanation they gave for how the plague started: an anti-cancer virus.Ya know, kind of like the one this virologist is currently working on.Sweet zombie Jesus on a pogo stick.There's a quote from this guy at the bottom.?I'm copying it here."I thought the movie was very entertaining but the scenario it presents is highly unlikely, almost impossible," he says.Oh.Oh, god.Why did I just say that?Saying it's "almost impossible" is just like saying, "yeah, sure, that could happen" to the media.Oh, god.I'm going to lose my funding.With a pause, he adds: "Scientists don't like to deal in absolutes, but in this case, I would say absolutely impossible."Okay, so I added the part in italics.?But really, am I wrong about what went through his head during that pause??First the Large Hadron Collider and now this.?Thanks, Science!That expiration date the Maya put on the Age of Man is starting to make far, far too much sense. |
