7:51 PM - Expect the Unexpected (or: Fuck You |
| Lately, Pop has been having some formatting issues with her blog.First, it was the blog finder that was giving her fits, apparently causing Internet Explorer browsers to chop her blog into little bits and fling them all over the page.Next, her Subscribe banner caused the letter "i" to start disappearing from comments at random.Having removed both of those, she found that replies to comments aren't indenting properly anymore.Being that I'm her geek, she asked me to take a look at it and see what I could do.Being that she's amazingly good at repaying such kindnesses on my part, I of course agreed.I've been trying for three days now. Each time, an "unexpected error" occurred.Unexpected, I ask, by whom?By someone enjoying their first day on the internet?I know I wasn't surprised. Were you surprised?Hell, how are you reading this blog at all?If all these "unexpected errors" were actually being forwarded to a technical department, you'd think something would get done.I mean, at the very least, we should start seeing pithy messages from the (clearly overwhelmed) technical staff:"We're sorry, but that just ain't gonna happen.Seriously, that feature hasn't worked in a week, and we don't know when it will again.""We're sorry, but about 800,000 other people clicked that link at the same time as you, and you're going to have to wait a while.""We're sorry, but our new owners have tasked us all to putting the most annoying Flash and Java-based internal promotions possible into the site, so we just don't have time to fix all the stuff that's breaking because of all the Flash and Java-based internal promotions on the site.""We're sorry, but the link you clicked unexpectedly worked. This anomaly has been forwarded to our technical department."The definition of insanity, I have read, is repeating the same action over and over and expecting a different outcome.Excuse me, I need to go demonstrate this by trying to fix the formatting issues on Pop's blog. |
